"O ye who believe! Lo! Among your wives and your children there are enemies for you, therefore beware of them." (Quran 64:14).  In Pakistan, "Honour Killings are on the Rise" exclaims a recent report.

Nearly 1,100 women were killed in Pakistan last year by relatives who believed they had dishonoured their families, the country's independent Human Rights Commission says.

"In its annual report the commission said 900 more women suffered sexual violence and nearly 800 took, or tried to take, their own lives."
"In 2014 about 1,000 women died in honour-related attacks and 869 in 2013."
"Correspondents say a large number of such crimes go unreported in Pakistan."

So what propelled one family to kill another in these honor killings?

"The predominant causes of these killings in 2015 were domestic disputes, alleged illicit relations and exercising the right of choice in marriage," the report said.

What Islamic teaching may inspire one relative to want to kill another?  Any particular relative whose actions may potentially stimulate disbelief within the family can be regarded as an "enemy":  "O ye who believe! Lo! among your wives and your children there are enemies for you, therefore beware of them." (Quran 64:14).

In the article, "Worldwide Trends in Honor Killings," in the Middle Eastern Quarterly (Spring, 2010), it is concluded that: "Although Sikhs and Hindus do sometimes commit such murders, honor killings, both worldwide and in the West, are mainly Muslim-on-Muslim crimes."  In a study the article's author undertook, 91% of the perpetrators of honor killings were Muslims.
Does Islam more than other religions advocate that children exist for their parents, rather than the parents existing for their chldren?

This Index, which can be found at this link, provides readers with brief accounts of individual honor killings, including the age & name of victim (if available), the relationship of the killer to the victim, when & where the killing took place, and the reasons the murderers wanted the victims dead.
In looking at all the cases, we note that almost all the murderers are men, and almost all the victims are young women.

Debate Question: In murdering a child whom he "feared" would "overburden his parents with disbelief & transgression," did Al-Khidr set a proper example for Muslims to follow?

If a brother murders his sister, a sister who has DEFINITELY BECOME A DISBELIEVER and who thereby has "overburdened his parents with disbelief," has this brother, guided by Al-Khidr, committed a sin?
