In trying to assess whether particular verses were excised from the Quran, it is helpful to first determine if something seems to be missing:

What may have been in the Quran originally (call this Version A):

Quran 53:19-20  "Have you thought upon al-Lat and al-'Uzza and Manat, the third, the other?" [A question is posed]
"These are the high-flying cranes; verily their intercession is accepted with approval."  [A direct answer to the above question -- but was this verse removed?]

What is currently in the Quran  (call this Version B):

Quran 53:19-20  "Have you thought upon al-Lat and al-'Uzza and Manat, the third, the other?" [A question is posed]
Quran 53:21  "Is the male for you and for Him the female?" [Another question is posed that does not answer the first question]
Quran 53:22 "That is an unfair division."  [Allah does not like being assigned the women]

Quran 53:23  "
They are not but [mere] names you have named them - you and your forefathers - for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow not except assumption and what [their] souls desire, and there has already come to them from their Lord guidance."

Debate Question:  Which version seems more natural to you:  Version A or Version B?

I say Version A seems more natural.
