We can now debate whether certain sayings & actions of Prophet Muhammad guide the Islamic State as it undertakes sex slavery. So our debate question is: do any of the following sayings & actions guide the Islamic State?
- Not only did Muhammad own slaves (Sahih Bukhari indicates the names of at least two Anjasha & Mi'dam), but he traded them as well. In Sahih Muslim we read: "Jabir (Allah be pleased with him) reported: "There came a slave and pledged allegiance to Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) on migration; he (the Holy Prophet) did not know that he was a slave. Then there came his master and demanded him back, whereupon Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) said: Sell him to me. And he bought him for two black slaves..."
- The Quran permits a Muslim to have sex with his slave, as it indicates that wise Muslims guard their chastity "except with their wives and those their right hands possess [i.e., slaves]." (Quran 70:29-30).
- Most tellingly, Muhammad did not angrily command his men not to rape captives when he had the opportunity to do so. Instead, he merely gave them birth control advice. "We [Muhammad’s merry men] went out with Allah's messenger on the expedition to the Mustaliq and took captive some excellent Arab women; and we desired them for we were suffering from the absence of our wives, (but at the same time) we also desired ransom for them.So we decided to have sexual intercourse with them but by observing azl" (withdrawing the male sexual organ before emission of semen to avoid conception). But we said:"We are doing an act whereas Allah's messenger [i.e., Muhammad] is amongst us; why not ask him?"So we asked Allah's messenger and he said:"It does not matter if you do not do it, for every soul that is to be born up to the Day of Resurrection will be born". (Sahih Muslim, Vol. 2, #3371). (We note that at least some of the female captives were being held for ransom, which is exactly what the Islamic State is doing now with at least some of its female captives).
- What is most ominous is the high price for captives under the age of ten. We know that Muhammad married his third wife (Aisha) when she was six years old.
